Pancakes were eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were not allowed during Lent, where as today people tend to just give something up for lent such as children are likely to say they will give up sweets or crisp.

- 100g plain flour
- Half pint (250ml) milk
- 1 Standard Egg
- Pinch of Salt
50g butter for frying pan, can also use spray oil
Toppings: Sugar, Lemon, lemon Juice, maple syrup etc
